![]() ![]() The supported textures in homophony is not a separate melodic voice in its own right. A homophonic texture is a multi-voice texture with a single, primary melody line supported by simple harmony lines underneath. Now, play the same simple melody in your right hand, accompanied by the left hand starting the same melody a perfect fifth lower. Sit down at your piano and play a single melody in your right hand. Monophonic texture in musicĪ monophonic texture in music occurs when there is a single melody line happening with no accompaniment. Let’s explore some different types of texture in music. Musical texture can also include ideas about arrangement and harmony in music. Texture in music can also refer to the combination of timbres in music. Texture is a word that is sometimes used to describe the aesthetic qualities of a musical sound, much like someone would describe the texture of a food, a piece of cloth, or a painting. Texture in music is a related concept to timbre. This is why no two pianos will ever sound exactly the same. ![]() Every instrument, even instruments in the same family, will have a different timbre based on their construction and relationship to the harmonic series. So, essentially timbre in music refers to the sound qualities produced by the balance of these overtones in the harmonic series. This means that for every single key you press on the piano, there are actually 16 different harmonics, or overtones, inside of that pitch. The last C is actually 4 octaves above the fundamental. The order is as follows: the fundamental (C), the octave (C), the fifth (G), the octave again (C), the third (E), the fifth again (G), the flat seventh (B♭), the octave again (C), the second (D), the third again (E), the sharp fourth (F♯), the fifth again (G), the sixth (A), the flat seventh again (B♭), the natural seventh (B), and finally the octave again (C). Your mind might be totally blown right now. Inside of that single middle C there are actually many of the pitches in our musical system arrayed in a specific pattern. However, there are many other pitches buried inside of that middle C that you can uncover. So, for example, if you hear the pitch middle C, then C is the fundamental. The fundamental is the root note of the pitch. In the harmonic series, the most prominent pitch we hear is called the fundamental. It is a little bit hard to visualize this on the piano simply because we do not often see the inner mechanism of the piano, as opposed to a string instrument where we can visually see the changing positions of our hands on a string. Every sound we hear is actually a composite picture of many hidden sounds called harmonics, or overtones. The harmonic series is a naturally occurring phenomenon that is quite fascinating when you dive into it. Underneath the surface, the harmonic series is a defining feature of an instrument’s timbre. What unique characteristics can you think of that define the timbre of the piano as distinct from other instruments like the violin or trumpet? Harmonic context of timbre ![]() Timbre in music is generally not related to more specific aspects like melody in music, although of course the sound of a melody can be altered based on the timbre of the instrument performing it. Timbre is pronounced TAM-ber, not TIM-bre, which is often quite confusing for the beginner. ![]() Timbre is a particular concept in music that refers to the unique characteristics that define the sound quality of an instrument. For instance, mathematical models (One Compartment Approach) were developed in order to predict internal concentrations of organic chemicals in fish. Several studies have generated prediction models. Įcotoxicological models can be developed for selected fish species, which have the capacity to accumulate pollutants within their tissues. The Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment recommends using collected fish as an environmental monitoring tool in order to minimize the costs related to field sampling studies. Metal analysis is the most direct procedure for the quantification of these elements in the environment however, this approach involves high financial costs. Moreover, the turbot does not undertake long and transboundary migrations therefore it is an important instrument in assessing water pollution. In general, toxic metals accumulate more in benthic fish species when compared to pelagic ones. The feeding ecology of the turbot is benthivorous, which is, it feeds on organic detritus and small preys inhabiting the sediment superficial layers. įlatfish, such as the turbot ( Psetta maxima maeotica, Linnaeus, 1758), are accepted by the scientific communities as good bioindicators of heavy metal pollution in the aquatic environment, due to their association to bottom sediments. It is important that the chosen bioindicator fish species is not migratory and, thus, can accurately indicate pollution levels in a certain study area, have a superior trophic level (carnivorous or piscivorous) and a specific diet. The response of fish to environmental pollution is species specific. ![]() Furthermore, alkali metals, such as sodium (Na) or potassium (K), and alkaline earth metals, such as calcium (Ca) or magnesium (Mg), influence the bioaccumulation capacity of trace metals in fish. Both essential and non-essential metals may become toxic above a specific threshold. Other trace metals, such as lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) are non-essential elements and do not have any biological role in the fish’s organism. Trace metals, such as iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), cobalt (Co), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), or selenium (S), are essential elements that are involved in the normal metabolism of fish. By using fish as bioindicators, direct data on the bioavailable fraction of heavy metals can be obtained. įish are suitable bioindicators of metal pollution due to their capacity to accumulate higher metal concentrations in their tissues, as compared to the concentrations present in the surrounding water. In the aquatic environment, fish have been widely utilized as environmental bioindicators of microplastic pollution metal pollution, sewage sludge pollution, suspended solid pollution, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs) pollution, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) pollution. The models can be used for improving the knowledge and economic efficiency of linked heavy metals food safety and environment pollution studies.Īmong all of the pollutants, metals are the most hazardous substances due to their potential for accumulation, magnification, persistence and wide distribution within the water table, sediments, and aquatic organisms. Both machine learning MLR and non-linear tree-based RF prediction models were identified to be suitable for predicting the heavy metal concentration from both turbot muscle and liver tissues. The non-linear tree-based RF prediction models (over 70% prediction accuracy) were identified for As, Cd, Cu, K, Mg, and Zn in muscle tissue and As, Ca, Cd, Mg, and Fe in turbot liver tissue. Significant MLR models were recorded for Ca, Fe, Mg, and Na in muscle tissue and K, Cu, Zn, and Na in turbot liver tissue. The models were based on data that were provided from scientific literature, attributed to 11 heavy metals (As, Ca, Cd, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Zn) from both muscle and liver tissues of turbot exemplars. For multiple linear regression (MLR) models, the stepwise method was used, while non-linear models were developed by applying random forest (RF) algorithm. The present study uses a machine learning approach, which is based on multiple linear and non-linear models, in order to effectively estimate the concentrations of heavy metals in both turbot muscle and liver tissues. ![]() ![]() ![]() Demersal fish species, such as turbot ( Psetta maxima maeotica), are accepted by the scientific communities as suitable bioindicators of heavy metal pollution in the aquatic environment. I never had any sexual experiences before I left Islam because I had been told to cover my hair, and to dress modestly (which in London makes you feel dumb because of how people stare at you in public, and in summer makes you suffer with the heat). Those were the first steps of my freedom the next step was sexuality. I committed to live by the fruits of my own mind, and in accord with my own desires and judgment. I left this dark cult where it belonged - in the caves - and I started to breathe and live (again), without fear, and without submission. The first big change for me to was to discard Islam itself. But if my autonomy causes them to suffer because it conflicts with their religious views, then…fine. Of course my parents did some good things for me as well, including bringing me to London from Kabul. I am perfectly content that they feel this way because they and so many others like them have been abusing women and children in the name of Islam the internal logic of the religion now requires their shame. For “dishonouring” them, my parents have disowned me. I took the Eurostar to Paris from St Pancras to meet my partner. I left my parents’ house at dawn one day five years ago. And so I decided to give up everything I knew in exchange for freedom and love. I’d had enough of being slapped, beaten, deprived of my rights, and being told what was good for me. The clock was ticking.īy good fortune, when I was 19, I met a man (who later became my husband, by my choice!), who is an atheist Jew and we fell in love. If I stayed in my home, I would be married off and my parents would give “ownership” of me to some man of their choosing who could do with me as he pleased since consent doesn’t exist in such a mentality. To put it bluntly: Islam, practiced this way, is nothing but old men’s wet dreams “deified” in order to immunise their idiocy against criticism.Īs I grew into my teenage years, it dawned on me that soon a moment would come, one Muslim women are told to cherish even while it amounts to nothing but violence against the spirit and the will. These teachings encourage men to look down on and discriminate against women and my brothers would quote verses to us from the Qur’an and Hadiths which justified their behaviour. I was forced to do the cooking, cleaning, and ironing while my brothers would sit and order me and my sisters around, because it was a woman’s job in accordance with Islam’s teachings. But at home there was nothing but inequality and fear. In secondary school in East London (a girls’ school, because my parents didn’t want me to integrate), we were taught about equality. And this part of my story is not unique: this is the sad and hopeless reality of many Muslims the world over. My parents tried to make me hate everything modern, civilised and secular. I grew up fearful of going to hell, fearful of knowing myself, and fearful of everything that goes against Islamic teachings. Based on Islamic rules, my parents directed me how to dress, what to do, what to think, and who to be. My parents told me Islam is more important than anything else, even more important than the love between parents and their kids. Islam was forced on me by my biological parents, first in Afghanistan as a child and then in Britain as an adolescent. And I have seen first-hand how Islam, at its worst, operates, here in the West, right under our noses. Take it from me: I know too much about Islam and its dark side. And it will be even more uncomfortable for many liberals because of their twisted understanding of tolerance and their culturally suicidal devotion to so-called diversity.įor example, no matter how much and how hard many on the left claim to fight for women’s rights, I have noticed that they usually turn a blind eye to the severe restrictions Islam imposes on women, like dress codes, corporal punishment for infringing on “Islamic values,” forced marriages, and female genital mutilation. Some on the right will be uncomfortable with my story because of its unabashed celebration of kinky sex. Today, I am travelling and working as a porn actress.
